UPenn Assistant Julie Young will direct the University of Washington camp this summer. Julie begins her sixth season assisting Head Coach Karin Brower in strengthening the Quakers'offensive strategies and organizes practices for the women's lacrosse program. Along with Brower, Young has played a key role in the development of the women's lacrosse program at Penn.
A member of Princeton's lacrosse team from 1998-2001, Young received many accolades, including Ivy League Rookie of the Year, and All-Ivy honors from 1998-2001. Julie was also a three-time NCAA All-American (1999-2001). As team captain, she helped lead the team to the 2001 Ivy League title and its second consecutive NCAA Final Four appearance. Young was a Tewaaraton Trophy finalist in her senior year, an honor that is presented to the top women's collegiate lacrosse player. She was also the recipient of the prestigious C. Otto von Kienbusch Award that is presented annually to the Princeton University Sportswoman of the Year who has a high scholastic rank and a demonstrated ability in athletics and the qualities of a true sportswoman.
After her stellar athletic career at Princeton, Young immediately jumped into coaching. She is responsible for organizing practices and developing game strategies. Not falling behind in playing sports herself, Young has been a member of the US Elite Lacrosse team.
2007 was a very successful season for UPenn- they reached the NCAA Final Four, after being undefeated in the Ivy League, and had an overall record of 16-2. Due to their remarkable accomplishments last year, Julie and her staff received the 2007 National Coach of the Year Award.
