NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - Smith College Director of Athletics and Recreation Lynn Oberbillig has announced that Jen Nardi, the founder of CatLax Vermont Girls Lacrosse Club and a former assistant coach at the University of Vermont and the University of Massachusetts, will be the next head coach of the Pioneers' lacrosse team.
"Having Jen on board is a real boost for our program," said Oberbillig. "Her connections to lacrosse camps and programs all over the country will raise our level of play across the board."
Nardi has experience at all levels of lacrosse, starting with her career as a goalie for the UMass Minutewomen, where she captained the team and was a member of the Atlantic-10 Conference tournament champions in 2000. A four year netminder for the Minutewomen, Nardi finished No. 1 statistically in the NCAA in goals against average in 2000, and in save percentage in 1999 and 2000.
Following her graduation in 2001 with a degree in Business Management, she spent a year as the head coach of Grant High School in Portland, Ore., where she took a team from ninth place the previous year to a second place league finish. She then made a return to the college game, with stints as an assistant at St. Mary's College, the University of California, UMass, and Long Island University, before being named as interim head coach at Colby-Sawyer College for the 2007 season. In her one season with the Chargers, the team advanced to the semi-finals of The Commonwealth Coast Conference tournament for the second time in program history, and guided four players to All-TCCC Honors.
The GameBreaker Lacrosse Camp at Smith College complies with all Massachusetts General Program Requirements for youth camps (105 CMR 430.190.191).
